NEWS FROM AUSBOW INDUSTRIES
2 June 2006
NOTICE TO SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMERS
From
1 June 2006 crossbows are now classified as "dangerous articles".
While there is no requirement for a licence, the manufacture, sale,
distribution, supply or possession of crossbows requires "lawful
purpose".
Dealers are now required to determine whether a prospective
customer has lawful excuse. The regulations do not define what
constitutes lawful excuse, however membership of an archery or
shooting organisation is acceptable as is legitimate hunting. Ausbow
Industries will maintain a voluntary sales register and will include
the stated purpose as indicated by customers.

Changes in South Australian Crossbow Legislation
New legislation is being considered for South Australia to be introduced in 2006. A Crossbow will be classed as a "dangerous article" and not an "offensive weapon" as is currently the case. "...crossbows can't be manufactured, sold or even possessed without lawful excuse in SA..." says Attorney-General Michael Atkinson's Press Release on 22 September 2005. Ausbow Industries is currently seeking clarification from the SA Attorney General's Department. In particular we are seeking definition of what "lawful excuse" means.
Changes in Australian States Crossbow Legislation
New legislation concerning crossbows is being proposed and introduced in most Australian States. In most eastern Australian states, crossbows have been moved from being CONTROLLED WEAPONS to now being PROHIBITED WEAPONS. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY HAVE BEEN BANNED! This means that you now need a permit or a licence.
New
legislation was introduced in QUEENSLAND
on 1 November 2004. Please note that Ausbow Industries can no longer
supply crossbows to Queensland customers directly, except via a
licenced Queensland-based firearms dealer. However we can still help
you with the selection of your equipment, assistance with arranging
your purchase and other important advice.

We were delighted to welcome EXCALIBUR Crossbow Inc. principals Bill and Kath Troubridge to Ausbow Industries. This was their first visit to Australia and coincides with Excalibur's 20th anniversary.

Bill and Kath wanted to see the Australian crossbow shooting scene first-hand. They experienced pig and buffalo shooting in Cape Yorke Peninsula, Queensland and the Northern Territory, participated in target crossbow shooting in Goolwa, South Australia and met with some crossbow dealers.
The visit reinforces the long standing relationship between Excalibur Crossbow Inc. and Ausbow Industries, and signals a continuing commitment to Australia - particularly in these uncertain times.
Working with Ausbow's crossbow hunting advisor and Excalibur field tester Ted Mitchell, Bill and Kath have taken video footage which will be used to make the first professional Australian crossbow hunting videotape. This should be available in about 12 months.
Excalibur Crossbows Inc. have committed to improve dealer support in Australia with better point-of-sale material and dealer incentives in 2004. We are looking for committed Excalibur dealers. Contact John Clark for more information.
The Excalibur commitment to continuous product improvement and unsurpassed reliability, coupled with a stronger Australian dollar means that there has never been a better to to buy EXCALIBUR crossbows and accessories.
